I have written about the fantasy romance genre (Fantasy Romance: What to Read If You Have a Maas Hangover) and there are many reviews here on the blog that fall into the urban fantasy and fantasy romance genres. Here are some of my favourite authors whose series you can binge read right now.
C. L. Wilson
The Tairen Soul series (five books) sucked me in. I enjoyed the plotting, the characters and her writing. I also can’t withstand the allure of a tall, dark, well muscled man or a smart, strong female protagonist (review here). Her Weathermages of Misteral series (two are out, one is due soon) is also addictive, sexy and boasts excellent world building.
If you enjoy richly populated worlds, kickass female protagonists and an excellent blend of fantasy and romance then Cassandra Clare is going to be a real treat – there are multiple series and lots of extra books written in the same world for you to dig into. The Mortal Instruments (six books), The Infernal Devices (three books), The Dark Artifices (three books) – and she hasn’t finished, there are two more series in the works for the next few years.
Jennifer L. Armentrout
I recommend everything she has written but especially her urban fantasy series. The Lux series (five books), The Covenant series (five books), The Titans (four books), The Dark Elements (three books) series and more. Her Goodreads profile says she has 97 books.
I’ve written a review of the Nine Kingdoms series (11 books) and wholly recommend it. This romance is more sweet and less sensual but each trilogy within the series follows equally compelling relationships. Lots of world saving and butt kicking of evil.
The Kingmaker Chronicles (three books) is addictive. The romance is delicious, the plotting fast and the protagonist badass. I reviewed the third book here.
Vampire Academy (six books) is essential reading for YA fantasy romance, the Bloodlines (six books) follow on series is also great.
There are more than 60 books mentioned here and only the unfinished series – you’re welcome!
Have you read any of these? Are there any authors you recommend binge reading?
